I have a new R730xd wit IDRAC8 and firmware 2.40. I was trying this:

/admin1-> racadm help System.LCD.QualifierTemp
QualifierTemp             -- Specifies the Ambient temperature qualifier
Usage                     -- C,F,Default- C
Required License          -- RACADM
Dependency                -- None

But:

/admin1-> racadm get System.LCD.QualifierTemp
ERROR: Invalid object name specified.

I also cannot set it:

/admin1-> racadm set System.LCD.QualifierTemp C
ERROR: Invalid object name specified.

I have the same problem with the other System.LCD objects.

iDRAC 7 Not recognizing after installation in T420

Hello,

My company purchased a T420 new from Dell a year or so ago. Well we decided to put an iDRAC 7 card in it. I realize I need to purchase the software license as well, however, when I power on the system, POST doesn't even show that the iDRAC is installed. There's no Ctrl-E option to configure it. BIOS setup doesn't have a "Dedicated" option for the DRAC network interface.

When I first power on the system, the link lights, amber and green, both light up on the iDRAC card. The green light flashes with network activity.

Both lights go off for a second, then comes back on for maybe 10-15 sec, then goes off again. I have tried reseating the iDRAC card.

The T420 was completely powered off and unplugged from AC power when it was installed.

This is what I purchased:

PowerEdge R630, Disable SMART Status

Hi all,

I come here to ask to you how to disable SMART status on the many physical disks in my Dell R630.

When i'm in the BIOS Setup (F2 just after power on), i'm going to the Physical Disk Management, i can see in "Advanced..."  this line: "SMART Status .... Enable".

I search but i don't find how to disable it. In fact, in my company we have to disable these status because it sends many error message that we judge useless.

If anyone know how to do it, please answer. We know that is not a recommended way to do but we have to.

Thanks.

iDRAC on dell poweredge c6220 II

$

Hello All,

I am trying to figure out if there is a way to get iDRAC on my dell poweredge c6220 II server which is part of the department cluster. The aim is to monitor and record the power usage of this particular node and currently when I access the node using a web browser using its IP address, I get into the dell remote manage controller which is a BMC systems management and doesn't have the monitoring feature I am looking for. I know that feature is available in iDRAC and all the searching on the internet didn't reveal if it is even possible to get iDRAC on c62200 II.

So my question is, if its possible to monitor and record power usage with BMC systems management? If not is it possible to install iDRAC on a dell c62200 II and if so how do I go about it?

Thanks

Krishna

openmanage and raid status

I can see the the PERC H730 in my servers in opemnanage but I don't see any details (attached drives, volumes etc). I wonder if openmanage will warn me if a disk fails in the raid?

the megaraid storage manager that comes with the server has the notifications management cut out for whatever reason so i am not sure how I can get email notifications for a failing raid volume.

R720 Blocking Dell certified SAS drives after updating

I have 8 each R720 servers that were removed from Production and placed in a dev environment. There were no issues with the RAIDs or any hard drives when these were removed. Originally the OS was Server 2008 R2, we upgraded to Server 2012 R2. As part of this, we upgraded the R720's to the latest drivers/firmware/software from Dell for the R720 using Server 2012 R2, bad mistake!

Now we have 6 drives on various machines that show Fail, and we have 4 drives that show as uncertified. Every HDD is a Dell certified drive that came in the servers as delivered from Dell.

I have moved the drives around to the different servers/configurations and recreated the RAID each time. This allowed for some drives to show good after reconfiguration. Generally I have VD0 set to Raid1 using slots 0/1, and VD1 set to Raid5 for slots 2/7. VD0 is 146gb SAS and VD1 is 600gb SAS.

The VD0 is comprised of Dell Toshiba drives and does not have any issues. VD1 is Dell Seagate Cheetahs and they are a nightmare now. The updates installed are below:

iDrac6 Express 2.85 Virtual Console not working

I got 1.95 firmware and Connection Failed each time no matter Java7/8. The same.

The server is PowerEdge R610

So updated the firmware 2.85. Now i click on "Launch Virtual Console" and nothing happens, no downloading java applet. Nothing, null, zero.

I've done

racadm racreset soft

racadm racreset hard

Completely turned off the power of the server. Still nothing.

iDRAC 6 not sending test emails for alerts

I am trying to test email alerts for iDRAC 6 express, Firmware 2.85 (Build 04). When sending the test email, I am receiving a error. On the "gettracelog" output, I see this:

sendTestEmail() - send test email failed, return code:19200 error: No such file or directory

Could not find any documentation on this 19200 code. I have already:

  • Configured the SMTP server to open relay (tested with telnet and works)
  • SMTP and iDRAC ar on the same subnet
  • On Networking under iDRAC settings, Common settings, I have configured hostname and domain (in fact tried with several combinations, ith or without this and the error is the same).

Anyone have any idea on what this might be?

Thanks,

Marcelo Soares

SNMP Monitoring possibilities for R710 iDRAC 6

$

I'm building a Proof of Concept with Zabbix, where I'm trying to monitor different systems such as switches, routers, Windows and Linux hosts, and physical Dell servers. The world of SNMP is a complex one in my eyes, and I'm afraid I can't see the forest through the trees.

In Zabbix there are templates with pre-defined items that collect values from different sources. I'm trying to monitor a Dell R710 server with iDRAC 6 using SNMP, but I can't seem to retreive much information.

I'm using a CentOS 7 server. When running the command:

snmpget -v 2c -c [something] [IP-address-of-the-server] sysName.0 --> it returns me a value. Great!

Looking at different SNMP communities/websites/sources, I've learned that there is much more information to be read via SNMP, such as Temperature information. But I cannot retreive such information from the Dell server. When running the command:

snmpget -v 2c -c [something] [IP-address-of-the-server] systemStateTemperatureStatusCombined.0 --> it returns:  Unknown Object Identifier (Sub-id not found: (top) -> systemStateTemperatureStatusCombined)

Even if I hardcode the OID (.1.3.6.1.4.1.674.10892.5.4.200.10.1.24) it still cannot retreive this value.

I'm starting to wonder if I'm doing something wrong. Can anyone tell me if the iDRAC 6 is simply much less 'advanced' SNMP-wise compared to iDRAC 7 or higher?

To clear error message on Open manage server Administrtor

Hi Friends,

I have DELL PowerEdge R730 in my client office. This machine has redundant power supply and recently we had a power cable failure for PS2 which was noted and fixed immediately by our team. By the way, the error message appears on server's front LCD screen and disappear after fixing the power cable fault but the "status: Critical" error message in Openmanage server Administrtor with RED "X" mark cannot be cleared. Currently the server running fine and no warning messages on the front LCD screen. Error message exists only in OMSA. I've tried clearing logs and reinstalling the OMSA but still the status is same. Can someone help me clear this ?

Config CMC/iDrac on M1000e and FX2 for general LDAP authentication

$

I have tested on my Openldap servers which is working for my Linux, not AD.

I posted here for anyone who need it.

Remember: Only LDAP over SSL can work, without SSL, failed.

Select Generic LDAP.

Generic LDAP enable                                                              Check

Use Distinguished Name to Search Group Membership         Check

Certificate Validation Enable                                                    Uncheck

(if check, you need certification file upload, I guess it would be enterprise CA. Not test)

Bind DN                                                                                    uid=xxx,ou=users,dc=xxx,dc=com

Bind Password                                                                         xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Base DB to Search                                                                   dc=xxx,dc=com

Attribute of User Login                                                             uid

Attibute of Group Membership                                                 uniqueMember or Blank

Search Filter                                                                            Blank

(Important: leave it blank, not object=*, I tried, failed)

Timeout can be kept default.

LDAP Servers                                                                          ServerName or IP

(Write ServerName, DNS must be set in the network tab)

LDAP Server Port                                                                     636(default)

Group Settings:

Role Groups 1      which means set a group DN mapped to role, normally administrator permissions

This can be set in the webGUI. I tested it through racadm. iDRAC may test on the webGUI.

racadm testfeature -f LDAP -u username -p password -d 0x02 (0xf2)

iDRAC JNLPException Security Error

Hello,

I am using Centos 7 and Firefox to try and launch the console of a Dell iDRAC. I am using Java version "1.8.0_131", Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.8.0_131-b11), Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 25.131-b11, mixed mode).

When I connect to the iDRAC and click to launch the console it fails to open.  When I click launch to open the console I accept the Security Warning.  It says, Trying to launch iDRAC6 Virtual Console Client from Dell Inc. It asks, Do you want to Continue. The connection to this website is untrusted. I click "continue".

The box with the error stated, "Unsigned application requesting unrestricted access to system. The following resource is signed with a weak signature algorithm MD5withRSA and is treated as unsigned: https://address/software/avctKVM.jar".

Open Manager Broken After Apache Tomcat Install

$

Hi, one of my colleagues updated Apache Tomcat and Java on an old (but still used) PowerEdge 2900 recently. Today I noticed Enterprise Manager doesn't work, cannot connect. I believe the version of EM on there was 8.1 and looking at files, I believe this used 7 of Apache Tomcat. I'm suspecting the Apache/Tomcat upgrade as the cause of my problems. I obviously need to get Enterprise Manager running again, should I just install the latest version (of EM)? Any pointers very welcome. The 2900 will be retired in a few months, but need it for those few months. Thanks Dan.
